La prima nazionale di “EZ” di Elena Zanzu, presentata alla Tosse all’interno del Festival Circumnavigando, è stata uno di quegli spettacoli che resta addosso: nonostante una sala non piena, la performance ha mostrato una capacità rara di coinvolgere e di far riflettere.
Fiducia, solitudine, sospensione e fragilità diventano materia viva, non solo concetti evocati. In scena una figura forte e insieme vulnerabile — che attraversa lo spazio con funi tese e rilassate, come in una danza metafisica che intreccia corpo e pensiero. La relazione con il pubblico è parte integrante dell’esperienza: durante lo spettacolo un membro della platea è chiamato in scena, e nel finale una porzione del pubblico diventa protagonista. Questo continuo slittamento di ruoli — artista/spettatore, attivo/passivo — non è un vezzo teorico ma un dispositivo drammaturgico che muove davvero attenzione e partecipazione.
La drammaturgia esplora con rigore e delicatezza ciò che accade quando la possibilità di dire “no” diventa il presupposto per un “sì” autentico: una negoziazione del consenso resa concreta e fisica. La cornice sonora di Odil Bright e Adele Madau amplifica lo stato di sospensione, costruendo un paesaggio interiore fatto di vuoti, tensioni e respiri trattenuti.
“EZ” non è uno spettacolo facile o immediato, ma proprio per questo ha una forza rara: parla alle viscere e alla testa, smuove senza forzare e invita a guardare la cura come un gesto reciproco. Un lavoro intenso, intelligente e profondamente umano.
The national premiere of “EZ” by Elena Zanzu, presented at Teatro della Tosse as part of the Circumnavigando Festival, was one of those performances that stay with you: despite a not fully packed house, the piece showed a rare ability to engage and prompt reflection.
Trust, solitude, suspension and fragility become living matter, not just suggested ideas. On stage, a figure both strong and vulnerable moves through space with ropes alternately taut and slack, in a kind of metaphysical dance that weaves together body and thought. The relationship with the audience is an integral part of the experience: during the performance, a member of the audience is invited on stage, and in the final moments a section of the crowd becomes directly involved. This constant shifting of roles — artist/spectator, active/passive — is not a theoretical flourish but a dramaturgical device that genuinely drives attention and participation.
The dramaturgy explores with rigor and delicacy what happens when the ability to say “no” becomes the condition for an authentic “yes”: a negotiation of consent made tangible and physical. The soundscape by Odil Bright and Adele Madau heightens the sense of suspension, shaping an inner landscape of gaps, tension and held breaths.
“EZ” is not an easy or immediate performance, and that is precisely where its uncommon strength lies: it speaks to both instinct and intellect, unsettles without coercion, and invites us to see care as a reciprocal act. An intense, intelligent and deeply human work.
