LOS XIQUEÑOS El Tequiloco
Three tracks might seem few, but when the quality is clear, you notice it right away—there’s no need for flashy effects: “El Tequiloco” by Los Xiqueños is a focused and convincing debut. The band shows confidence and tightness, with rich, well-balanced arrangements where the instruments interact naturally. José Cano’s production (at Cano Sonico Studio in Oxnard) highlights every detail: the mix breathes and leaves space for the vocals, which skillfully modulate intensity and delicacy. The opening track, “I Played The Fool”, serves as an effective calling card, with sharp melodies and carefully timed key moments. “Lucy” is the most engaging track: intimate lyrics, a melancholic atmosphere, and a refrain that blooms with restraint; the voice here is magnetic. The final track explores Mexican and South American sounds, with echoes of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs but without copying them. Overall, the songwriting is precise: evocative lyrics, immediate melodies, and carefully crafted dynamics. And a work that would only belong in Latin markets? Absolutely not—it’s music that can succeed in Europe as well.

Tre tracce possono sembrare poche, ma quando la qualità è chiara si capisce subito, non c’è bisogno di grandi effetti speciali: “El Tequiloco” dei Los Xiqueños è un esordio concentrato e convincente. La band dimostra sicurezza e compattezza, con arrangiamenti ricchi e ben bilanciati, in cui gli strumenti dialogano con naturalezza. La produzione di José Cano (al Cano Sonico Studio di Oxnard) mette a fuoco ogni dettaglio: il mix respira e lascia spazio alla voce, che sa modulare intensità e delicatezza. L’apertura con “I Played The Fool” è un biglietto da visita efficace, con melodie incisive e momenti chiave ben calibrati. “Lucy” è il brano più avvincente: testi intimi, atmosfera malinconica e un refrain che esplode con misura; la voce qui è magnetica. Il pezzo finale porta sonorità messicane e sudamericane, con echi dei Los Fabulosos Cadillacs senza scimmiottature. Nel complesso, la scrittura è precisa: testi evocativi, melodie immediate e dinamiche curate. E un lavoro che ha diritto di cittadinanza solo nei mercati latini? Assolutamente no, è musica che può funzionare anche in Europa.
