È davvero complicato recensire il nuovo spettacolo de La Fura dels Baus, “Sons: Ser O No Ser“, visto in anteprima alla Fabbrica del Vapore di Milano. La compagnia spagnola è famosa per lavori che sfuggono alle definizioni tradizionali, esperienze da vivere più che da spiegare, e questo spettacolo conferma la loro fama. I riferimenti sono chiari: l’”Amleto” di Shakespeare rivisitato completamente, ma non vogliamo svelare troppo per non rovinare le sorprese.
Protagonista l’azzeramento totale della distanza tra scena e pubblico. Non esiste una “quarta parete”: lo spettatore viene coinvolto completamente, chiamato a muoversi e interagire attivamente in un ambiente che è più installazione umana che palco tradizionale. Chi cerca uno spettacolo statico resterà deluso, perché qui devi farti partecipe e abbandonare il ruolo di semplice osservatore. L’allestimento site-specific trasforma la Fabbrica del Vapore in un’arena sensoriale e tecnologica: video a 360 gradi, suono vivo, scenografie digitali si fondono in un rito collettivo che supera il teatro convenzionale. C’è poi il linguaggio fisico, la performance totale, che mescola la forza primitiva con elementi contemporanei.
Lo spettacolo ha momenti dai picchi epici assoluti e un finale di grande impatto, viscerale e potente, che lascia chi lo vive dentro un flusso emotivo difficile da descrivere. The references are clear: Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” completely reimagined, but we won’t say too much so as not to spoil the surprises.

If you’re after a static performance you’ll be disappointed, because here you have to take part and abandon the role of mere observer. The site-specific setup turns Fabbrica del Vapore into a sensorial and technological arena: 360-degree video, live sound, and digital scenography merge into a collective ritual that goes beyond conventional theatre. Then there’s the physical language—the total performance—that blends primal force with contemporary elements.
The show has moments of absolute epic peaks and a finale of strong impact—visceral and powerful—that leaves those who live it inside an emotional flow that’s hard to describe. It’s an intense, uneasy experience, meant to push spectators out of their comfort zone, on a journey between madness and reason, life and death, freedom and responsibility. It’s theatre that breaks the mold, mixing art, technology, and emotions into a single, overwhelming vision.
A very modern work that demands to be lived, not described, but one thing is certain: if you love traditional theatre, this is the wrong place. La Fura dels Baus remains true to itself, offering a disruptive, multisensory experience that pushes you to participate physically as well. Be ready.
