Dopo sei anni di assenza dall’Italia, Halsey è tornata a Milano con un concerto che ha mostrato soprattutto il lato più ruvido del suo repertorio. L’intro affidata a “Closer” dei Nine Inch Nails è stata una dichiarazione d’intenti immediata, confermata pochi minuti dopo da “I am not a woman, I’m a god”, eseguita con un’energia che ha segnato il tono dell’intera serata.
Gran parte del set ha ruotato attorno a “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power”, l’album prodotto da Trent Reznor e Atticus Ross che ancora oggi rappresenta il volto più interessante della sua discografia. “You Asked for This”, “Bells in Santa Fe”, “Honey”, “The Lighthouse” e “People disappear here” hanno dato forma a una sequenza compatta e intensa, più vicina al rock alternativo che al pop tradizionale. Non sono mancati i richiami a “Badlands”, con “Castle”, “Colors” e “Hurricane”. Proprio “Castle” ha guadagnato forza rispetto alla versione in studio, mentre “Hurricane” ha acceso il pubblico nella parte finale dello spettacolo.
Uno dei momenti più particolari è arrivato con “The Lighthouse”. Tra arrangiamenti industriali, la voce registrata di Reznor e Halsey al basso circondata dalle fiamme, il brano ha assunto una dimensione quasi allucinata, tra tensione e teatralità. Poco prima, “Bells in Santa Fe” era stata interrotta per un malore in platea, con l’artista che ha poi ripreso l’esecuzione esattamente dal punto in cui si era fermata.
In grande forma e perfettamente a suo agio sul palco, Halsey ha confermato quanto la componente rock sia ormai centrale nella sua identità. Il pop resta nelle melodie, ma è il resto dell’impianto sonoro a definire davvero il carattere della sua dimensione d’artista.
After six years away from Italy, Halsey returned to Milan with a concert that highlighted the rawest side of her catalogue. The intro, set to Nine Inch Nails‘ “Closer”, was an immediate statement of intent, confirmed just a few minutes later by “I am not a woman, I’m a god”, performed with an energy that set the tone for the entire evening.
A large part of the set revolved around “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power”, the album produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross that still represents the most compelling side of her discography. “You Asked for This”, “Bells in Santa Fe”, “Honey”, “The Lighthouse” and “People disappear here” formed a tight and intense sequence, closer to alternative rock than traditional pop. There was also room for songs from “Badlands”, with “Castle”, “Colors” and “Hurricane”. “Castle” proved more powerful than its studio version, while “Hurricane” fired up the crowd during the final part of the show.
One of the most striking moments came with “The Lighthouse”. Between its industrial arrangements, Reznor’s recorded vocals and Halsey playing bass surrounded by flames, the song took on an almost hallucinatory dimension, balancing tension and theatricality. Shortly before that, “Bells in Santa Fe” had been interrupted due to a medical emergency in the audience, with the artist resuming the performance from the exact point where she had stopped.
In great form and completely at ease on stage, Halsey confirmed how central the rock element has become to her identity. The pop remains in the melodies, but it is the rest of the sonic framework that truly defines her artistic identity.
