Keeping things in perspective, the EP’s textures carry echoes akin to the Venezuelan artist Arca: there is less extreme experimentation, but a clear desire emerges to create an authentic connection with the listener, favoring unconventional sonic solutions.
The journey flows smoothly with “wishes”, a track with a great mood that glides fast and without bumps, proving to be a perfect potential single to hook the audience. The atmosphere changes drastically in “fck”, a lysergic episode wrapped in a slightly dark and mysterious aesthetic, as captivating as a stolen kiss in the night. “honestly” draws the conclusions, a coherent track perfectly aligned with the record’s soul. Although some melodic passages fail to reach their full potential, it more than makes up for it with delightful lyrics.
More than a simple debut, “egoff.” is the first act of a nocturnal film where Yang has just begun to reveal his cards. If these are the premises, the wait for the upcoming chapters is already completely justified.

Rapper e produttore, Yang confeziona sei tracce autoprodotte in inglese, muovendosi agilmente tra rap melodico e trap. Il progetto non è un episodio isolato, bensì il primo tassello di un’ambiziosa trilogia concettuale destinata a proseguire con “egon.” per poi chiudersi definitivamente con “ego.”.
L’iniziale “noself” mette subito in chiaro le intenzioni: le parole contano e la cura per la scrittura resta centrale, pur senza mai sacrificare il comparto melodico. Il brano surfa tra i generi offrendo interessanti aperture urban; l’unico vero rammarico è la durata, poiché sfuma in meno di due minuti.
Facendo le dovute proporzioni, nelle trame dell’EP riecheggiano suggestioni vicine alla venezuelana Arca: c’è una minore sperimentazione estrema, ma emerge la netta volontà di creare una connessione autentica con chi ascolta, privilegiando soluzioni sonore non banali.
Il viaggio procede fluido con “wishes”, un pezzo dall’ottimo mood che scorre veloce e senza scossoni, rivelandosi un potenziale singolo perfetto per agganciare il pubblico. L’atmosfera cambia invece drasticamente in “fck”, un episodio lisergico avvolto da un’estetica leggermente dark e misteriosa, affascinante proprio come un bacio rubato di notte. A tirare le somme ci pensa “honestly”, traccia coerente e perfettamente allineata all’anima del disco. Sebbene in alcuni passaggi melodici non riesca a esprimere il suo massimo potenziale, si fa ampiamente perdonare grazie a un testo delizioso.
Più che un semplice esordio, “egoff.” è il primo atto di una pellicola notturna in cui Yang ha appena iniziato a svelare le sue carte. Se queste sono le premesse, l’attesa per i prossimi capitoli ha già un suo perché.
