Listening to the “Blood Tape EP” by ShiShi, a project from Artur Ziganshin, is an experience that begins with a total immersion into a liquid, almost amniotic sonic world. The introduction is a cinematic portal that sets the stage for what is to come. With the title track, “Blood Tape”, that veil of apparent calm is torn apart. The production is excellent: the electronics become magmatic, dense, and powerful. When the vocals enter, it’s as if the ceiling explodes. It is a track that can be appreciated in any setting, but at high volume, it becomes a true revelation and the most impactful piece on the EP for its sheer force.
The EP continues with “Doomnight”, whose initial rhythm might bring The Prodigy’s “Diesel Power” to mind, but this is a fleeting fascination. The track almost immediately forges its own original, more complex path, incorporating clever moments of decompression that break the tension without ever completely losing it. “Rocket Ship to Hell” is a tribute, a conscious leap into the 80s and the great film scores of that decade. There is a distant echo of “Blade Runner”, a synthetic, nocturnal atmosphere that captures the imagination. Closing the circle is “Storm Clouds Gather”, a song performed with remarkable expressive power and a welcome touch of theatricality. The dark mood completely envelops the listener, and when the chorus hits, it is a sonic epiphany that seals the dark and fascinating journey of this work.

L’ascolto del “Blood Tape EP” di ShiShi, progetto firmato da Artur Ziganshin, è un’esperienza che inizia con un’immersione totale in un mondo sonoro liquido, quasi amniotico. L’introduzione è un portale cinematografico che prepara il terreno per ciò che sta per accadere. Con la title track, “Blood Tape”, quel velo di apparente quiete si squarcia. La produzione è eccellente: l’elettronica diventa magmatica, densa e potente. Quando entra la voce, è come se il soffitto della stanza esplodesse. È un brano che si può ascoltare in qualsiasi modo, ma a volume alto diventa una vera e propria rivelazione, il pezzo che più colpisce dell’intero EP per la sua forza d’urto.
Si prosegue con “Doomnight”, la cui ritmica iniziale può far pensare a “Diesel Power” dei Prodigy, ma è una fascinazione che dura un attimo. Il brano imbocca quasi subito una strada originale, più complessa, inserendo intelligenti momenti di decompressione che spezzano la tensione senza mai perderla. “Rocket Ship to Hell” è invece un omaggio, un salto consapevole negli anni ’80 e nelle grandi colonne sonore del cinema di quel decennio. Si percepisce un eco lontano di “Blade Runner”, un’atmosfera notturna e sintetica che cattura l’immaginario. A chiudere il cerchio arriva “Storm Clouds Gather”, un pezzo cantato con una carica espressiva notevole e un pizzico di teatralità che non guasta. Il mood dark avvolge completamente l’ascoltatore e, quando arriva il ritornello, è un’epifania sonora che suggella il viaggio oscuro e affascinante di questo lavoro.
