VERBENA Into the pink

Quante volte avete sentito la frase: “Questo album lo devi ascoltare”? Un sacco, vero? In effetti la frase è piuttosto inflazionata. Però nel caso dei Verbena mettiamola così: “Into the pink” è veramente un disco bellissimo, totale, intriso di grunge sino al midollo. Merita una chance.

Anno 1999. Per il loro secondo album in studio i Verbena si affidano alla produzione di Dave Grohl e il risultato è sorprendente: riff potenti e diretti, belle melodie, un cantato sfrontato e soprattutto singoli in quantità. Agli estremi (all’inizio e alla fine), due ballatone come “Lovely Isn’t Love” e “Big Skies, Black Rainbows”, e nel mezzo tanto rock con una hit che nel circuito underground segnò un’epoca, cioè “Baby Got Shot”. Da segnalare anche la title track, “Bang Bang” e “Depression is a fashion”. Insomma, questo album lo devi ascoltare…

How many times have you heard the phrase: “You have to listen to this album”? A lot, right? Actually, the phrase is quite overused. But in the case of Verbena, let’s put it this way: “Into the Pink” is truly a beautiful, complete record, steeped in grunge to the core. It deserves a chance.
